Understanding “Offside”

I keep getting called “offside” in my games, but I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Please help!

Offside can be complex, and the information above is very limited, but the “simple” explanation of offside is:

A player is offside if they are closer to the goal line they are attacking than at least 2 defenders (goal keeper or otherwise) the moment a ball is played to them, except:
  • on their defending side of the field
  • for a throw-in, goal kick, or corner kick
  • the ball is first played by a defending player
  • the ball is already in front of the player receiving the ball
