Snatch

Snatch is a practice game that trains: passing, receivingdribbling, shielding, aggressiveness, decision making, and communication.

Organization

  • Set-up two rectangles large enough to accommodate passing amongst players
  • Divide players into 2 teams.
  • Assign a number to each player so that each team has a corresponding numbers (example: 1, 2, 3,4 on team one and 1, 2, 3, 4 on team 2).

Game Play

  • Each team moves around the rectangle dribbling and passing to each other.
  • Coach calls a number and the player from each team with that number runs to the other team’s side to try to take the ball.
  • If the attacking player kicks (or forces the other team to play) the ball out of bounds he scores 1 point for his team.
  • If the attacking player wins the ball and passes it to a teammate back in his own square, he gains 3 points for his team.
  • Each round of attack should not last more than 30 seconds.
  • Play should continue for several rounds, making sure all players have a chance to attack.

Progression

  • Call more than one number to be the attacker.
  • Have teams protect more than one ball.
