How Do I Make Myself Stand Out At Tryouts?

I want to play for my college team, but I have not been invited to camp. Since I will be a “walk-on”, how can I make myself stand out to the coaches?

The best way to impress coaches during your tryout is to be a good player and to have a good attitude. However, even if you’re not the most skilled player, here are some tips that will help you:

  • Listen to what the coaches tells you, and do exactly what they say – even if you think you know differently. This shows that you are “coach-able”. Coaches want players who will listen, whether you agree with their decision or not – after all, they are the coach.
  • Try your hardest. Even if you think something doesn’t matter, hustle your butt off for it. This will show that you’re willing to work hard no matter how small the task. Coaches want someone who will give their full effort, and if some of the other players aren’t giving their all your effort will likely put you above them.
  • Ask relevant questions. Coaches wants someone who wants to get better. This shows you’re willing to learn, and it shows that you’re a leader who is not afraid to speak up.
  • Have a positive attitude. Be confident and be happy to be there.
