As you may have guessed from the name, this game is essentially “hot potato” played with a soccer ball. Hot “Ball-tato” (also sometimes known simply as “hot” or “hot soccer”) helps players train passing and receiving balls with pace.
Set-up
Have players pair up at a decent distance (players will often be tempted to move closer to one another during this game, so make sure they keep spaced out – you should use cones as separators if necessary)
Play
Each pair of players quickly passes the ball between each other
After a given amount of time – 30 seconds or 1 minute, etc – coach calls “hot ball-tato” (or simply call “now” for older teams)
Make It Competitive
The last player to touch the ball takes a point
The player with the least points at the end wins
